I’d like to share a phrase that has stuck with me since I completed an online teacher’s training last week. Its author is an instructor named Dr. Gill Solberg who is an expert in the fields of yoga & kinesiology.
The phrase is “position before range”. And, it represents a concept that is central to performing our postures.
Position before range means that we should find our most correct alignment or position before we can attempt to reach or extend into any given pose.
This is the reason that I use props and teach with variations. No two bodies are alike. We all have postural differences that require adaptation and modification.
Position before range. We will address this crucial aspect of asana practice next week in our classes.
